My name is Caroline Kelly and I am a Communication Science and Disorders major interested in a career in speech-language pathology or audiology. As an undergraduate student at the University of Pittsburgh, and a member of Kerry Banazek's Writing for the Public course, I have designed this website to merge my interests in Autism and film by exploring the representation of children and adults on the Autism spectrum on screen. As a future clinician, I take a special interest in the information the public is receiving through media outlets, including film and T.V. This affects my future career, and the future perceptions of children and adults with Autism by the general public. Exploring the patterns of portrayal of individuals with Autism on screen will make me more aware of the need for public awareness and will reveal the troubles and strengths in the entertainment industry concerning this disorder. I hope to use my knowledge of Autism and film to create a comprehensive site exploring the depictions of people on screen with the disorder, to answer some questions I may have, and to raise even more.
